West Brom have to use ‘Championship Zidane’ Romaine Sawyers next season
The West Brom midfield has been rather uninspiring for much of the 2021-22 season and they have suffered badly as a result with poor form throughout.
Jake Livermore is great for being the defensive rock and Alex Mowatt is decent for one or two screamers per season but they’ve had to rely on the youthful exuberance of Taylor Gardner-Hickman to have any kind of spark.
There is, however, a player contracted to the Baggies that could return from loan and reignite the fire within Steve Bruce’s side and inspire a potential promotion push next season.

Romaine Sawyers has been a fairly regular feature of Stoke City’s team this season and he is earning all kinds of praise as a result as he endears himself to the Potteries.
Former Stoke player Mike Pejic has even compared the Saint Kitts and Nevis international to one of football’s most revered players.
“Romaine Sawyers is our Zidane. Bear with me! He’s a Championship Zidane, yes, but a Championship Zidane right now is a very good player for Stoke City,” he said to the Stoke Sentinel.
“He’s that type of player that you have to make sure you balance your team around to give him the freedom to do what he can do, which in turn elevates the side around him.”

Why would you not want that kind of player in your team and with this 3-5-2 that Bruce has adopted at The Hawthorns, Sawyers can have that freedom he desires.
With him and Gardner-Hickman in front of the rock-solid Livermore in the midfield three, Albion could find themselves their ideal formula as long as the strikers can finish their dinners more often than they have this campaign.
In other West Brom news, another Baggies-Stoke move is set to happen with this Albion chief already having handed his notice in ahead of a summer move.
