West Brom set to lose chief commercial officer Simon King to Stoke City

West Brom could be about to lose their chief commercial officer Simon King with Stoke City expected to be his next career destination, according to the Stoke Sentinel.

King has been in his position at The Hawthorns since 2017 but is supposedly currently on his notice period with the club in order for a move to the Potteries to be done before next season begins.

The Potters are restructuring their boardroom staff and the role in which King will go in is a newly-created one that will see him focus on commercial activity and report to the club’s chairman.

Who the Baggies decide to bring in as King’s replacement is as yet unknown but if King has already handed his notice in, as is suggested by the Stoke Sentinel, then the process must have been started at the very least.

With such a key role in the running of the club now seemingly vacant, West Brom have to act quickly to fill that position once more with the 2022/23 season starting earlier than normal due to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

To get someone settled into their surroundings and doing their best work in such a small time frame is a tough task and not one that Albion can really afford to contend with at this time either.

They need the entire club focused on improving the first-team squad after what has been a pretty shocking season in the Championship.

Steve Bruce, his scouts and the club board need to be working in perfect harmony which will be difficult with a high-ranking role filled by a newbie.

If they can hire someone to start as soon as possible, it will limit the potential damage this summer could cause but with every passing day, things might only get worse so they need to act in a rapid fashion to this news.

In other West Brom news, despite the upheaval, Bruce has his sights set on this second-tier assist machine as his first summer signing.
