West Brom have to swoop to sign Jed Wallace after Gary Rowett’s comments

West Brom ended the Championship season in 10th after a late surge of wins but they still lacked a bit of pizzaz in the attacking third of the pitch.

Karlan Grant led the goal-scoring charts with 18 in all competitions but many of those came from the penalty spot and scoring from open play was a common issue for both Steve Bruce and Valerien Ismael.

The Baggies board will be scouring the transfer market for any potential bargains who could add goals and assist and the ideal man for the job might just be about to become available to them.

Millwall narrowly missed out on the playoffs this season and a large portion of that can be attributed to the talents of Jed Wallace who picked up 12 assists throughout the campaign along with six goals of his own.

He now looks set to leave The Den and Lions manager Gary Rowett’s comments after the Championship finale will encourage Albion greatly after the Express and Star reported their interest in the 28-year-old.

“Good luck to him. I gave him a big hug in there – he’s been fabulous for me,” Rowett said, as quoted by London News.

“Whatever he does will be the right decision for him. He has got Premier League quality and, on a free transfer, there will be a hell of a lot of teams looking at him.

“The challenge for us, is they are not easy to replace. What you don’t want to do is be weaker after the season we’ve just had – you want to be stronger.”

When someone puts up those kinds of numbers in the second tier you know that they are almost too good for the division and Albion need to try everything they can to convince him that The Hawthorns is the destination for him.
