West Brom talent Ethan Ingram eyes first-team spot next season

Young defender Ethan Ingram has revealed that he is eyeing a place in the West Brom first-team next season.

The 19-year-old has had a good campaign for the Baggies’ under-23 side where scored the winning penalty in the Premier League Cup against Wolves to clinch the title last week.

Ingram was quoted in a report by Express & Star where he admitted having a difficult 12 months.

“My aim for next season is to push for the first-team,” he said. “I really want to be playing football – I need to be playing to boost my career.

“It was hard for me last season. I had ups and downs, whether that was with the first team or under-23s. I’ve been up and down everywhere. Now though I need to push on and I want to do that here.”

Good prospect

Ingram’s ambition will be good news for West Brom who will be hoping to see some young talent coming out of the academy and helping the side in pushing for a spot in the Premier League next season.

The 19-year-old played 24 matches for the West Brom U23 side in the Premier League 2 where he scored six goals.

Steve Bruce’s men will start the campaign knowing that they must not go another season without competing for a top spot in the Championship.

In a long campaign with so many matches, the Baggies will definitely need bodies on the bench to take some burden off from the regulars and Ingram might prove to be one of those who could come as a substitute and leave their mark on the pitch.

The Baggies finished the campaign on the 10th spot in the league table with 67 points, eight points behind sixth-placed Luton Town.

In other West Brom news, a BBC pundit and former Albion man has reacted to the club’s decision to let a “very good player” leave.
