West Brom set for major overhaul, two to three free agents could be followed by Premier League loans – Steve Madeley

West Brom are set for a major transfer overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window under Steve Bruce, according to Steve Madeley.

The Athletic journalist insisted that the Baggies may look to bring in two to three free agents, with Jed Wallace and John Swift high on the radar at The Hawthorns.

The Albion won’t be done there though, with Premier League loans expected to be utilised to freshen up the final third after struggles this season in that area.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic, Madeley shared what may be considered a strong summer in the transfer market for the Baggies.

“Derby’s Tom Lawrence and Blackburn’s Joe Rothwell are also Championship free agents next month that Bruce will be aware of, but Wallace and Swift are thought to be higher on Albion’s list,” he wrote.

“If Bruce can land two or three players as free agents for the start of pre-season training at the end of June, he will regard it as a positive start.

“Then Albion will move on to the Premier League loans market, targeting talented youngsters from the top division’s biggest clubs to add some freshness to the attack.”

New look.

Ron Gourlay has arrived at the club, and you can already tell from the few months in his role that he is changing things positively after years of torment.

That includes transfers, and those targets look to be in place already and we can expect movement on those very soon hopefully given that they are free agents.

Many clubs will want to tie players such as Wallace and Swift down to big contracts, so the Baggies will need to act quickly and put an attractive package on the table for them both.

Bruce knows what it takes to get out of the Championship, he has done it time and time again, and that is bringing in successful players who know it inside and out.

Wallace and Swift are exactly that, and adding a blend of the freshest talent the top of the Premier League would be perfect to strengthen this squad and get ready for next season.
