John Swift vows to create ‘opportunities’ for West Brom next season

West Brom new signing midfielder John Swift believes that playing for his new club will help him improve in his career.

The 26-year-old will join the Baggies as a free agent after his contract with Reading expires this summer.

Swift was quoted in a report by Express & Star where he stated that he will try to bring more attacking intent to the West Brom’s team.

“I would say that whether you’ve seen me play once or over 100 times, I always try and play the same way,” Swift said.

“My game is all about picking the ball up in dangerous areas of the pitch and trying to make things happen in an attacking sense.

“I always want the ball. I always want to dribble with the ball. I always want to try and create opportunities for me or my team-mates.

“I managed to get quite a few goals and assists last season at Reading and I’m focused on making sure I have another season where I manage to get plenty of both again.

“You always want to try and improve as a player and I believe playing for Albion will help me do that.

West Bromwich Albion were monitoring the 26-year-old’s progress for quite some time and the fans must be happy to finally get their man, that too as a free agent.

The England U21 international spent six seasons at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, making 202 appearances across all competitions, scoring 34 times and providing 38 assists in the process.

Swift scored 11 goals for Reading in the 2021-22 season, the highest number of goals he has scored in a single domestic campaign. Furthermore, he also provided 13 assists in the campaign.

In the last campaign, Steve Bruce played with a system of three at the back which allowed West Brom to close down spaces for the opponent attackers to grind out results.

However, with those prolific numbers of Swift, West Brom fans will be expecting to see more attack-minded performances from their team, especially in the presence of a quality attacking player who can make a difference.

In other West Brom news, a move for Sam Johnstone is now looking “unlikely” for two Premier League sides, narrowing his future prospects considerably.
