Simon King in process of leaving chief commercial officer role at West Brom

Simon King is set to leave his role as the chief commercial offer at West Brom after five years of service at The Hawthorns.

As confirmed on West Brom’s official website on Tuesday (31 May), changes are afoot behind the scenes at The Hawthorns as Ron Gourlay continues to make his mark.

Gourlay told the Albion Assembly on 29 April that “the club is continuing with the re-structure” as it aims to follow structures from successful European clubs.

Albion’s CEO also confirmed that there are “plans are in place for non-executive board members to join” and an appointment is due for a head of football operations.

Gourlay added that he won’t rule out fan involvement on the board but it’s something he’d have to speak to owner Guochuan Lai about.

Behind-the-scenes changes

It seems that Gourlay is intent on creating a new structure at West Brom after clearly being unimpressed by how things were being run before his arrival earlier this year.

While many Reading fans had their say about Gourlay’s arrival at The Hawthorns as Albion’s new CEO, we have to say that the changes he’s making do make sense.

West Brom’s recruitment has been stale and predictable for years now.

It has been very rare that the club has gone and signed a player who no one has heard of on a decent fee and shown them to be a really great player.

Matheus Pereira is the only one in recent seasons. We need more Pereiras and fewer Karlan Grants.

Steve Bruce’s squad still looks like one that’s going to be unable to win promotion this season.

Watford and Norwich are back in the Championship and they’re bound to be up there while Burnley, Sheffield United, Stoke, Huddersfield and Middlesbrough are also going to provide tough opposition for the Baggies.

Bruce cannot go into next season ill-equipped because it seems that each season that goes by, there are massive issues in the squad that are not fixture due to terrible recruitment.

Gourlay cannot overlook that in the coming weeks and months.

In other West Brom news, Matheus Pereira has sent a message to this player who’s exited The Hawthorns.
