West Brom issues can’t be fixed overnight, they must play long game
The 2021-22 season was one of the worst in recent memory for many West Brom fans and it doesn’t look like improving any time soon.
The Baggies may have already announced the pending arrival of John Swift when his contract expires at the end of June but it is going to take a lot more than the 26-year-old to turn around the sinking ship at The Hawthorns.
The Express and Star have accumulated the ratings of all Albion players over the course of the season to find out who has performed above or below expectations and, as you can imagine, it doesn’t make for pretty reading.

Matt Clarke was seen as the player of the season but his average rating was only a measly 6.4 out of 10 which is hardly pulling up trees no matter which way you try and twist it.
The Brighton loanee, who is heading back to the Amex, was joined by his fellow Seagull Jayson Molumby on that rating but the latter will be returning to The Hawthorns having had a clause in his loan agreement triggered by the club.
Other players to rate towards the top of the West Bro contingent were Sam Johnstone, Jake Livermore, Matt Phillips and David Button, all of which scored a 6.3.

On the flip side, Grady Diangana and Alex Mowatt were only given a 5.6 out of 10 which suggests they were the big disappointments of the season.
Steve Bruce will be acutely aware of the terrible season we have endured but no matter how much money might get thrown at the club this summer, it will take more than one window and probably more than a season to get this club heading back in the right direction.
In other West Brom news, Callum Robinson has refused to reveal if he’s had the COVID-19 vaccine yet after previously rejecting the offer during the height of the pandemic.
