West Brom have to show their intent and sign £12m Lewis O'Brien

Steve Bruce’s revolution of the West Brom squad is well underway but a lot more work needs to be done to make it a successful summer window.

Creative attacking midfielder John Swift has already put pen to paper on a three-year deal at The Hawthorns and Jayson Molumby’s loan has become permanent too which is an adequate start to the window.

But after the disappointment of the 2021-22 season, many more additions, and potentially some outgoings, are needed and one player could fall into their laps.

According to TEAMtalk, Huddersfield Town’s exciting midfielder Lewis O’Brien is on the radar of Albion although they face plenty of competition from the Premier League and Championship.

Sheffield United are the only other named side in the second tier hoping to make a move for the 23-year-old but Leeds United, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Bournemouth all want to take him to the big time.

All seven clubs have been boosted by the fact that the Terriers were beaten in the playoff final by Nottingham Forest which means O’Brien now has an active £12million release clause.

With Huddersfield unable to combat any offer of that value, it would be foolish of West Brom not to make a bid and see if they can’t prize him away from the John Smith’s Stadium and also from the bright lights of the Premier League.

To have so many top tier sides chasing his signature tells you everything you need to know about his talent and even though the midfield is fairly stacked at The Hawthorns at the moment, he is worth the money to add some much-needed quality over quantity.

Bruce has got a very unenviable task of trying to reinvent the side he inherited from Valerien Ismael in February while not breaking the bank at once but O’Brien is the man they need to challenge for promotion.

In other West Brom news, the boss’ pursuit of one of his former players could be over with Manchester United shockingly linked with a move.
