West Brom CCO Simon King leaves Hawthorns for Stoke City
The chief commercial officer at West Brom, Simon King, has left his post in the Midlands to join Championship rivals Stoke City.
King had been in his position at The Hawthorns for five years before the Potters came calling and offered him the role of chief operating officer at the Bet365 Stadium.
Stoke confirmed the news on Monday (6 June) on their official club website and the Baggies are now left searching for a new candidate to fill King’s now vacant role.
Potters chairman John Coates seems very pleased to have weakened a divisional rival with the appointment of King.
“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Simon to his new role. Simon has extensive experience in the football industry and is a really important addition to the Club,” Coates said.
No waiting around
Now that King has been announced at the Bet365 Stadium, we should be on the ball and nearly ready to appoint his replacement at The Hawthorns with the new season slowly sneaking into view.
Pre-season games are not all that far away now (just over a month) and Steve Bruce really needs to have someone cemented in King’s former position so he can fully plough ahead with his transfer plans for this summer.
There is a big overhaul required within the Albion squad and the boss has already begun that transformation with the free transfer of Reading’s star performer John Swift.
But one player won’t fix all the problems we had last season and the sooner we can appoint someone as the new chief commercial officer, the quicker we can focus all of our attention on the transfer window and not on things happening in the background at the club.
