West Brom striker Callum Robison brandished the 'most overhyped' player Eamon Dunphy has seen in a long time

Pundit Eamon Dunphy has brandished West Brom striker Callum Robinson as the “most overhyped” player he has seen in a Republic of Ireland shirt for a long time.

Ex-Millwall midfielder Dunphy was critical of West Brom man after Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Armenia on Saturday [4 June].

Despite scoring five goals towards the end of 2021, the pundit is less than impressed with the striker.

Writing in his Irish Daily Star column [6 June], Dunphy said: “To me, he [Robinson] is the most overhyped Ireland player in a long time.

“At club level, Robinson is usually a blunt instrument.

“When you take a narrower focus, the picture looks even worse.”

Dunphy added: “Robinson has played 109 club games in the last three seasons, with just 19 goals.

“That’s not good at all.”

Bit harsh

The criticism of Robison seems a tad harsh from the Irish pundit.

Robinson has been the Baggies second highest goal involvement this season with eight goals and nine assists to his name.

Ultimately, Robison is an attacking player and should be judged on the attacking output that he produces.

To notch 17 goal involvements in the Championship is extremely good going for the Irish international.

The striker as it the highest level he will likely play at and Ireland hardly have an array of strikers to choose from.

At 27, Robinson will most likely play no higher than the Championship and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him be a success for West Brom in the 2021-22 season.

Steve Bruce would be wise to keep the forward at The Hawthorns considering his record for the club and the Baggies lack of attacking options at present.

With the arrival of John Swift, there is every chance the 27-year-old could thrive with more creativity behind him.

In other West Brom news, the signing of Swift has really impressed Nigel Quashie as the former Baggies player sets Bruce his target for the 2022-23 campaign.
