West Brom: ‘Brilliant’ Jed Wallace is ‘great news’ for Steve Bruce – BBC pundit

West Brom added Jed Wallace to John Swift as the second summer signing at The Hawthorns and it has garnered plenty of positive reactions.

The 28-year-old joins up with Steve Bruce’s squad having left Millwall on a free transfer after his contract at The Den expired at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Wallace enjoyed a fabulous season for the Lions with six goals and 12 assists to his name which massively helped in Millwall’s charge to a top-half finish.

BBC pundit Carlton Palmer has been waxing lyrical about Wallace and the business Bruce has already managed to do in his first transfer window as Baggies manager.

“It’s brilliant for West Brom, that he’s not only gone there but chose to go and work under Steve Bruce,” Palmer said to Football League World.

“So, that says a lot about what the club’s ambitions are and the fact that Steve was able to attract him to come to the club with a host of other clubs interested in his services.

“So, it’s great news for West Brom that, really good news.”

Fabulous freebies

Wallace’s statistics may look impressive from afar but when you look at Swift’s own contributions for Reading last season, the goosebumps start to rise.

11 goals and 13 assists in a team that only just survived the drop thanks to Derby County’s mammoth 21-point deduction is a huge individual effort and he could go and blitz those figures with the Albion.

It’s a very exciting pair of signings and we haven’t paid a penny in transfer fees for either of them which makes you wonder what type of player we could get if we dipped into our pockets before the season begins at the end of July.

There are still some big problems that need to be addressed in the transfer market with a striker and a right-back high on Bruce’s summer shopping list and we can’t fill every single gap with a free transfer, unfortunately, so at some point we need to break out the chequebook and cough up some cash to build a squad that could challenge for promotion.

In other West Brom news, Bruce has reportedly chosen his first-choice striker for the 2022-23 campaign already but he wants to sign someone to partner him in a front two.
