Ron Gourlay misquoted by West Brom as accounts finally published

Joseph Masi has shared that Ron Gourlay was misquoted when he shared that there would be “no issues” with the West Brom accounts, which were finally released on Thursday (30 June).

It came to light that Guochuan Lai had taken a £4.95million loan from the club, which was a huge hidden issue, one which he now vows will be repaid before the January transfer window.

Gourlay is said to have meant that there were no issues regarding the date the accounts would be published, despite that information coming from the official West Brom website.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Thursday evening [30 June], Masi shared what he was told about Gourlay and his comments on the matter.

“From what I am told he meant no issue with the date the accounts would be published,” he wrote.

“Not that there would actually be no issue with the accounts. He’s been miss-quoted basically.”

Misquoted by the club?

This just epitomises everything that is going wrong with the club right now.

It may all look to be going rosy on the outside with the additions of Jed Wallace and John Swift, but this is what is actually happening behind the scenes.

There was a reason the Baggies were last in the 2020/21 Premier League to publish their accounts, and it was the huge news that the owner had taken a loan out of the club.

This was never going to go down well, and it is just another mishap added to the long list of them over the years during this reign at The Hawthorns.

Gourlay and Masi reporting it just shows that he has put his own foot in it, with no one apart from the club releasing the confirmation that there would be no issue.

Well, the issue has been found immediately, and it is only continuing to get worst and there are now many questions that are needing to be answered.

In other West Brom news, despite being in the market for another striker, Bruce has already decided on his first-choice number nine for next season.
