The West Brom stars to watch in their pre-season opener against Leyton Orient

West Brom are finally set to return to match action this evening as they take on Leyton Orient as part of their Algarve training camp.

Albion are looking to improve on a dire 2021/22 season, which saw them sack Valerien Ismael as they laboured to a 10th-placed finish.

Steve Bruce has already made some strong signings to try to improve the squad, including John Swift and Jed Wallace.

However, there are also players returning from injury, youngsters trying to impress the manager and players looking to save their West Brom careers to watch out for.

There is always greater rotation during pre-season, but these friendlies can still give a glimpse into the state of the squad as they go into a new campaign.

Who to watch out for

The number one player Albion fans should be looking out for is January signing Daryl Dike.

Fans only got to see Dike twice after arriving from Orlando City before his season was ended prematurely, but he is now back to fitness.

Dike had an incredibly successful spell with Barnsley in 2021 and is a very talented striker, so he should have a point to prove this summer.

A man fans should pay attention to for the complete opposite reason is striker Kenneth Zohore, who has been a disaster since arriving at The Hawthorns in 2019.

Zohore has made just 28 appearances since his £8million arrival from Cardiff City and has scored more for their Under-23s than the senior team.

Finally, there is promising young goalkeeper Josh Griffiths who is looking to make his mark after a successful loan spell with Lincoln City.

Griffiths impressed in League One with the Imps and could look to challenge David Button and Alex Palmer for a spot in the Albion squad this season.

All three players are out to impress Bruce this summer and should play some part against Orient this evening.

In other West Brom news, Steve Bruce has expressed his delight with new arrivals John Swift and Jed Wallace.
