West Brom: Preston boss Ryan Lowe does not want to ‘disrespect’ club during Callum Robinson pursuit

West Brom star Callum Robinson is a target for Preston this summer, but Ryan Lowe says he does not want to disrespect the club while they chase his signature.

Robinson has had three separate spells at Preston, joining twice on loan from Aston Villa before finally making the move permanent in 2016.

Lilywhites boss Lowe confirmed his interest in the Irish international, but told the Express & Star he does not want to disrespect either the club or Steve Bruce during negotiations.

“I don’t want to disrespect Steve Bruce, who I have a lot of time for and is a fantastic bloke who has a fantastic career,” he stressed.

“West Brom too, as a club, what I don’t want to do is talk about their player, so I have to be respectful of it in that way.”

Should Robinson make the move?

Lowe’s comments have a touch of class to them, even if they are typical of what any manager says when asked about other club’s players.

However, there is still the question of if Robinson should make the move or not given the increased competition at Albion this season.

He had a strong season in the Championship last time out, scoring seven goals and assisting nine more in 43 league appearances. However, with Jed Wallace coming into the club in Robinson’s position, the Irish winger suddenly finds himself down the pecking order.

Preston would be able to offer him regular Championship football, albeit lower down the table than Albion should be this season.

Robinson will leave with well wishes given his role in Albion’s promotion in 2020 and his decent form since arriving permanently. He has had his share of highlights in an Albion shirt, no less than his two braces against Chelsea in the Premier League.

However, with Wallace now in the door, there may be no room at the inn for Robinson.

In other West Brom news, Reyes Cleary still has not signed a new contract at the club despite appearing in preseason.
