West Brom: Josh Griffiths features in preseason fixture despite reportedly undergoing Portsmouth medical

West Brom youngster Josh Griffiths made a sensational double save for a Baggies eleven against Macclesfield on Wednesday evening despite reportedly undergoing a medical to sign for League One side Portsmouth.

It had been reported by talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook on Wednesday (13 July) that Pompey were closing in on the keeper, with Griffiths set to be undergoing his medical at Fratton Park.

However, it appears that Griffiths was instead playing for a West Brom (footage from WBAOPINIONS) eleven against Macclesfield and pulled off a sensational double save to prevent the Baggies from going 2-0 down.

Loan looks on

This may well have been a bit of miscommunication between a number of sources with the keeper reportedly down on the south coast whilst clearly featuring in goal for West Brom in their pre-season friendly.

The Portsmouth links have been fairly consistent throughout the summer and a move for the 20-year-old does look likely with Steve Bruce favouring Alex Palmer and David Button as his goalkeeper options at present.

A move to Danny Cowley’s side is exactly the right decision for the keeper, with the Pompey boss turning Gavin Bazunu from a lower League One keeper to a £15million Premier League shot-stopper in the course of a season.

West Brom

Cowley has proven his ability to work with younger players over the years and Griffiths will certainly stand a better shot of development at Fratton Park rather than The Hawthorns.

He will play every minute for the League One side and could well be playing at a level that he hasn’t yet featured at with Portsmouth hoping to be contending for the promotion places in the third tier.

This is a move that looks to benefit all parties involved and could well see Griffiths play himself into West Brom contention in the coming years.
