West Brom on verge of announcing Okay Yokuslu signing as three-year deal agreed

West Brom will “shortly” announce the signing of midfielder Okay Yokuslu after a contract was agreed with the Turkey international, according to CNN Turk.

Turkish Vole journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reported via his Twitter account on Friday (15 July) that Yokuslu, 28, had agreed a three-year deal with the Albion and was on his way to England to undergo a medical.

CNN Turk now claims that the Baggies will soon confirm a deal to re-sign the free agent, who was released by Celta Vigo earlier this summer.

Regular starter – or added depth?

West Brom’s midfielders struggled to impress last season.

Alex Mowatt and Jake Livermore, especially, failed to shine in the Championship while Jayson Molumby didn’t get that many starts but did improve towards the end of his loan spell.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman is also an option for Steve Bruce, although it seems like the versatile youngster could be seen more as a right-back in the upcoming season than a regular midfield option.

Where will Yokuslu fit in for Bruce?

Firstly, he’ll have to prove his fitness because that’s understandably the biggest issue among West Brom fans.

Yokuslu’s performances towards the end of his loan spell at The Hawthorns in 2020/21 waned before he had a shocker at the European Championships with Turkey.

Last season, he barely played for Celta Vigo and was sent out on loan to Getafe in January, where he mainly played as a centre-back.

Does Bruce see Yokuslu as a new centre-half option? Or will the Turkish ace slot straight into his midfield?

It isn’t long now before the 2022/23 Championship season kicks off and we doubt that Yokuslu will be starting any of the opening games due to him missing out on a lot of pre-season training.

We’re confident he can play well but can he play well over the course of a one-of-a-kind season that’s broken up by the World Cup and incredibly busy either side of the Qatar tournament

We’ll see.
