West Brom: Steve Bruce makes demand of rivals over Callum Robinson future

Steve Bruce has firmly put the ball in the court of Championship rivals of West Brom over the future of attacker Callum Robinson.

Preston North End are the side pursuing a deal harder than any other at the moment as they were keen to sign him on loan [Express and Star] but the Baggies are holding out for a permanent transfer if possible [Alan Nixon].

Nixon suggested on Twitter on 17 July that progress had been made on the Lilywhites’ end but no formal offer appears to have been submitted yet.

Bruce has now made a demand to Ryan Lowe’s side and any other potential suitors if they have any realistic ambitions of signing the Republic of Ireland international this summer.

“I keep hearing the rumblings but there is nothing to really report on it,” he said, as quoted by Birmingham Live. “They can make as much noise as they want but what they have got to do is put their money where their mouth is.”

Time’s up

The 2021-22 campaign was Robinson’s third with West Brom after a loan move during the second half of the 2019-20 season from Sheffield United and he has improved with every year.

Last season was his most productive for Albion with eight goals to his name and a host of assists but his complete game is just not where it needs to be at this stage in his career.

There is a combination of reasons why his time at The Hawthorns perhaps hasn’t worked out as he or any of his managers during that time would’ve hoped but this might be the best chance of a sale the Baggies will get.

He no longer fits in with what Bruce wants from his side and if a player of Robinson’s age is not going to feature all that regularly then he needs to be moved on to wherever will take him.

There is a chance that he comes back to haunt his former side if he does make the move to Deepdale but it would be in the best interests of all three parties to get this deal done.

In other West Brom news, Bruce’s comments after the 1-1 draw away at Crewe Alexandra suggest that the same problems may trouble Albion again this season.
