West Brom ace John Swift will ‘light up’ Hawthorns – Jonny Drury
West Brom may have only made three new summer signings but one of them is already making an impression at The Hawthorns in pre-season.
As Okay Yokuslu was introduced to the Baggies fans at half-time, Steve Bruce’s side were taking on Hertha Berlin on home soil and it was their first purchase of the off-season that really impressed.
John Swift came to the Midlands with a big reputation having scored and assisted over 20 goals last season for a troubled Reading side and he has already wormed his way into the hearts of many.
That includes Express and Star journalist Jonny Drury who was in awe of the 27-year-old as he thundered a free-kick onto the bar from 25 yards out in an otherwise quiet first half.
“This man is going to light up The Hawthorns this year,” Drury said via his personal Twitter account as the Bundesliga side controlled the majority of the game after beating Albion’s Under-23s in a 45-minute match earlier in the day.
Magician
If West Brom are going to have any kind of success this season it will be because of the genius of Swift and whether he can provide enough opportunities for the strikers to be able to score a bucketload.
With Daryl Dike back to full fitness, Bruce shouldn’t have to worry about a lack of clinicalness at the sharp end of the pitch after so many games without scoring last season.

Karlan Grant has also looked much sharper during pre-season after he ended the 2021-22 campaign as Albion’s top scorer but he could have had so much more.
With Swift, and fellow free transfer Jed Wallace, providing the ammunition for the strikers, it should be a season where goals are aplenty for the Baggies and that could see them fired back towards a promotion push.
The only question now lies on the defence and whether they can keep a firm base to allow the attacking talent to thrive.
In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer has lvoed what he has seen from this Albion player after he was delpoyed in an unusual position away at Crewe.
