West Brom want to sign Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri

West Brom are among four Championship clubs who want to sign Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, according to Sky Sports.

As reported on the EFL broadcaster’s Transfer Centre (Saturday 23 July, 3:25pm), the 16-time Tunisian international is set to be loaned out this season after making a handful of eye-catching appearances for the Red Devils last season.

Most notably, he came on for his Premier League debut in a humiliating defeat to Liverpool where he got stuck into tackles and was close to being sent off as he let his frustration out.

As well as the Baggies, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Birmingham City are also in the hunt to sign the 19-year-old while Braga want to take him away from England as do two unnamed Spanish sides.

United see Mejbri as a bright star for the future and have been pleased by what he has done in pre-season but they want to see him get regular football away from Old Trafford.

Mejbri is exactly the kind of midfielder West Brom need to spice up the menu at The Hawthorns because he is not just a player who will scrap anyone who wrongs him.

He also has a very good footballing brain and an eye for a pass that few can match and while John Swift has already signed for the club, if an injury strikes him then Steve Bruce would be left without any creative outlet.

The Tunisian would give him that and also be able to play slightly deeper alongside new signing Okay Yokuslu and offer yet more steel to the side when required.

Albion may need Bruce to use his own contacts at Old Trafford, having formerly played for the Red Devils in the 1990s, to turn the tide in their favour because it is a good list of potential destinations – Blues exempt of course.

Erik Ten Hag could ultimately make the final decision but there is no doubt that Mejbri would be welcomed in the Midlands.

In other West Brom news, Jonny Drury has made a bold prediction about Swift after what he did during the Baggies’ 2-1 friendly win against Hertha Berlin.
