Steve Bruce confirms West Brom exits 'inevitable', wants loan signings in

Steve Bruce has admitted that he hopes to bring in one or two loan signings before the end of the window at that exits are “inevitable” at West Brom.

The Baggies have signed John Swift, Jed Wallace and Okay Yokuslu on free transfers this summer to bolster their squad, while Jayson Molumby’s loan was turned permanent for around £900,000 too.

But with the Championship season set to begin on Saturday, Bruce says that he’s hopeful the club’s business isn’t done yet and says there are “one or two things going on” in terms of loan deals.

“My job never finishes with that – we are greedy,” he said, as quoted by Express and Star. “We should never be happy with what we have got. I would like to bring in a couple more if we can. There is still a long way to go in the window.

“And the big clubs are now coming back from tour and the young lads who they will be letting out on loan – they will have been assessed. We’d like to do a couple more, we’ll see what happens.”

“We knew the market and I knew the market. I think I was honest with the supporters – loans and frees are where we are at.

“I never expected us to be signing players for millions but I think that’s up and down the championship. Not a lot has been done really. I think clubs are still feeling the effect of Covid. That is still biting away.

“We have to be in that market, we have to be a bit clever.

“But the big clubs now are just starting to look at their young players. We have scoured that market and we have got one or two bits going on. We’ll see what happens over the next week or so.

“That [departures] might be inevitable too. One or two have left. That’s normal. We want to add to the squad really but if one or two have to make way that’s got to be it.”

If the protracted incomings are anywhere near as good as the ones that have already come in then Baggies fans have plenty of reason to be excited.

Bruce has assembled a strong squad for the season where promotion is a must, after last season’s horror show that saw them finish in their lowest position since the 1999/2000 season.

There is a lack of firepower and a lack of options in central defence however and it’s clear that the club will be targeting those positions to strengthen.

Hannibal Mejbri has been linked to the club from Manchester United and would certainly help to solve the problem in attack, but defensively there haven’t been many names linked.

But if anyone knows what a good centre back looks like it’s Bruce and Albion can hopefully start their season in positive fashion to attract any potential signings to the club.
