Burnley join West Brom in race to sign Newcastle United talent Elliot Anderson on loan

Burnley have joined West Brom in the race to sign Newcastle United attacker Elliot Anderson on loan, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing via his personal Patreon account on Sunday (31 July), Nixon said that Anderson, 19, “was dazzling against the Clarets” in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier this summer.

It is understood that Vincent Kompany’s club has now started asking about the Scotland Under-21 international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers as they won promotion from League Two.

West Brom

Albion are said to be queuing up to sign Anderson but face competition from Huddersfield and Millwall as well as Burnley, who “could change the picture by making a bid for the homegrown starlet but that would take an offer that would stretch their budget”.

Unlikely

Steve Bruce left a sour taste in the mouth of many at Newcastle so we’re unsure of how the Magpies would react to a loan bid from their former manager.

Anderson definitely needs the extra experience because it’s unlikely that he’ll get many first-team minutes at St James’ Park in the 2022/23 Premier League.

It’ll be a surprise if he’s not loaned out because Newcastle do have a great prospect on their hands.

West Brom

Anderson was in stunning form at Bristol Rovers last season as they won promotion to League One.

He scored eight goals and supplied five assists in 21 appearances as they finished third in the fourth-tier.

Anderson is a versatile attacking who played mainly in an attacking midfield role or on the left-wing for Bristol Rovers.

Albion don’t really need the depth on the wing if Callum Robinson isn’t being sold because he, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant are options there. However, it wouldn’t hurt to bring in someone who can add to the attacking midfield area.

In other West Brom news, another new loan has surfaced in Albion’s accounts.
