Steve Bruce set for urgent West Brom transfer talks with Ron Gourlay after Daryl Dike injury blow

Steve Bruce has admitted that he is set for urgent West Brom transfer talks with Ron Gourlay in the coming days as he looks for a new striker.

The Baggies were without Daryl Dike yet again in the 1-1 draw against Watford on Monday [08 August], with everyone said to be devastated over the latest injury for the American.

Bruce insisted he doesn’t like knee-jerk reactions in the transfer window, but admitted he was looking at options in the final third before this blow happened.

Speaking after the Watford showdown, as shared by Birmingham Live, Bruce shared what now to expect with changes likely possible in the plan.

“We’ll have a conversation with Ron,” he added. “Plans get changed because of what’s just happened. We’ve got a hell of a schedule coming up too. I never like doing anything (reacting) but we may have to find something because it wasn’t an area I was looking, being honest.

“With the way we played, with the two out and out No.9s we’ve got – it’s frustrating, we’ll see what happens.”

Shocker.

You have got to be kidding us.

When first seeing the rumours of Dike being injured on social media this week, we crossed our fingers and hoped that’s all they were, but it turned out to be true.

After missing most of last season, the American international will have been desperate to make a real impact at The Hawthorns, but it looks as though he is set for a spell on the sidelines again.

Bruce must be tearing his hair out trying to get his main number nine fit, with Karlan Grant showing his wastefulness in the draw with Watford, despite scoring our only goal.

Dike will have been watching on and chomping at the bit to get out onto the pitch and make a difference.

That isn’t possible though, and we hope that Gourlay can be made to see that and makes his move for another striker, with Premier League loans already mentioned.

All eyes will be watching the outcome of this one.

In other West Brom news, it could be a title-challenging season for the Baggies with Bruce’s experience unrivalled anywhere in English football
