West Brom suffer injury scare in EFL Cup win v Sheffield United as Karlan Grant falls heavily
West Brom suffered a scare in a 1-0 win against Sheffield United in the EFL Cup on Thursday with an injury forcing striker Karlan Grant to come off the pitch, according to Birmingham Mail journalist Joe Chapman.
The Baggies secured a win against the Blades, courtesy of a goal from the 24-year-old in the 73rd-minute which proved to be the winner.
However, Grant, who came on the pitch in the 70th minute as a replacement of young forward Reyes Cleary, soon after injured himself with a “heavy fall” and had to come off in the 85th minute and was replaced eventually by John Swift.
Blow
West Brom had a decent start to their campaign as they are still unbeaten despite having three difficult fixtures to begin their season.
The Baggies secured a 1-1 draw against Middleborough and Watford in the Championship and followed it up with a 1-0 win over the Blades in the EFL Cup.
However, manager Steve Bruce will not want to see his team’s season disrupt because of untimely injuries to players who can contribute, especially on the attacking front.

While the veteran manager has already said that Grant must look for other options to get more game time, his injury can disrupt the transfer plans of West Brom as no club would want to take a gamble on an injured player.
Therefore, the fans, as well as the management, will be hoping that the 24-year-old has not suffered a big injury which would rule him out of action for a considerable amount of time.
In other West Brom news, another new loan has surfaced in Albion’s accounts.
