Journalist praises ‘superb’ Grady Diangana for skill during West Brom vs Blackburn Rovers
Journalist Joe Chapman heaped praise on winger Grady Diangana for a “superb” piece of skill during the first half of West Brom against Blackburn Rovers.
The Baggies started with an unchanged team from their last Championship game and played well during the opening 45 minutes, before going into the break 1-0 down at Ewood Park following a Ben Brereton-Diaz strike on the stroke of half-time.
But arguably the stand-out player during that period was winger Diangna, who caught the eye of the Birmingham Live journalist on Twitter for one terrific Cruyff turn that saw him beat two players before being fouled and winning a free-kick.
Diangana also missed the best chance of the half when Jed Wallace turned in a beautiful cross that the goalkeeper misjudged, but he could only head the ball just wide of the post.
Style
Diangana seems to have found his mojo once again under Steve Bruce during pre-season and looks to be the flying and exciting winger we all remember when we initially signed him.
His quick feet, pace and skill make him a great threat whenever the team is going forward, but he lost his way in recent seasons and seemed like a shadow of the player he once was.
But now on the left hand side, he provides real width and a one-on-one threat which allows Karlan Grant to focus on staying in the box and converting the chances that are created for him.
His early season form is a great positive for the club so far and hopefully he can continue that as the campaign goes on and help the Baggies push towards a promotion challenge after a disappointing season last year. His early performances are showing that that is more than possible right now.
