Steve Bruce confirms West Brom hope of new signing, journalist makes claim
Steve Bruce has stated his hope that West Brom will have signed a new striker fairly soon but Alan Nixon has made a claim of his own.
Albion fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday (14 August) with Ben Brereton Diaz and Sam Gallagher bagging Rovers’ goals to nullify Grady Diangana’s deflected effort.
It wasn’t for the lack of trying on the Baggies’ side who had the lion’s share of the game but they could not find a way through and Bruce is hopeful that a striker will solve those problems.
I’m hopeful, we’re hopeful,” he said, as quoted by the Express and Star. “We’re trying, we’re having to because the club has been unfortunate.
“We’ve got two big number nines who have had a series of awful injuries which has been difficult. Especially the one to Dike.”
But for a new number nine to arrive, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon thinks it won’t be a purchase, saying, “Would need to be a loan or a free,” when asked about the situation on Twitter.
Potential
West Brom have faced three of the Championship’s toughest opposition to kickstart their 2022-23 season and in all three matches, they have largely been the better of the two sides on the day.
It has only been a clinical goalscorer that is absent at The Hawthorns that has stopped them from perhaps turning the two points on the board to the full nine they could have achieved so far.

Karlan Grant may have scored three goals in four matches in all competitions, the only Baggies goalscorer until Diangana, but he tends to need four or five chances before he finally puts one in.
Daryl Dike could have been that focal point that would have changed it all for Bruce but he is almost constantly injured so he simply cannot be relied on anymore.
There is no doubt that a new striker is needed but the pool of talent is thin now the season has kicked off so the boss will have to pull something out of the hat.
In other West Brom news, there is a defender at Chelsea who Albion have contacted over a signing but they face competition from within the championship.
