‘Pressure’ – David Prutton predicts result of West Brom clash vs Hull City

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton is expecting West Brom to have more trouble to the start of their Championship season when they face Hull on Saturday.

The Baggies are winless in the Championship so far this season after three draws and a defeat in their opening four games, with just three goals scored.

And while the team have played well, Steve Bruce has admitted the team are short on players and former midfielder Prutton told Sky Sports in his predictions column that because of this, he expects Hull to be able to claim a tight victory at The Hawthorns.

“West Brom badly, badly need a win,” he said.

“Steve Bruce says they are short a few bodies, but there is still enough quality in that squad to have started better than they had. It does not take long for pressure to build in this league.

“Hull have enjoyed a much better start, and battled to a solid draw at Burnley in a game they were mostly dominated in. It showed the resolve they have, despite being an evolving side under Shota Arveladze. I think they’ll edge it.”

Ouch

The season has been a strange one so far, because while the results haven’t been good the performances have largely been encouraging.

The team are playing well and look cohesive in attack, while defensively they’ve been relatively strong for the most part barring the odd individual error.

Yet with Daryl Dike out injured for a couple of months and Karlan Grant the only striker at the club with senior experience, they’ve been unable to turn those performances into points and the manager is under growing pressure to deliver now.

It’s been a tough start with fixtures against some top sides so far too, but those are the games that separate the real contenders from the pretenders and West Brom now need to prove they’re one of the former rather than the latter.

The players should see predictions like this and want to be hungry to prove them wrong, and give the fans something to cheer about to get some momentum going.
