West Brom now in talks to sign free agent striker Lewis Grabban

West Brom have now entered into negotiations with free agent striker Lewis Grabban over a deadline-busting deal, according to Football League World.

The 34-year-old was released by Nottingham Forest over the summer after he helped them to promotion to the Premier League in the way of 12 goals in 32 Championship appearances.

Steve Cooper, though, did not extend his deal and he is yet to find a new club with The Athletic reporting on 16 August that the Baggies had put his name on their striker shortlist.

Over his career, Grabban has scored 160 league goals which is perhaps why Forest were paying him £30,000 per week at the end of his contract at the City Ground.

Any potential deal for the 34-year-old to play for Albion would likely be a one-year deal with an option to extend that for a further 12 months given his age.

No brainer

For the grand total of zero pounds in transfer fees, there is not a more capable or proven goalscorer in the second tier anywhere in the world and it is amazing that he hasn’t been signed by anyone else so far.

Even if last season was not his best, he still managed to bag 12 goals and has more than his fair share of experience and ability to provide for anyone wanting to have a chance at promotion.

Steve Bruce can count himself extremely lucky to still have the opportunity to sign Grabban on a free this late into the window with five league games already under their belts.

His desperation for a striker has been obvious though which may have halted his chances of signing one from another team but he can now offer almost guaranteed starts to whoever he chooses.

If West Brom opts not to sign the 34-year-old then they should expect another season of mid-table mediocrity and once that happens, it is difficult to get out of the league again as the club are hoping for.

In other West Brom news, enigmatic winger Grady Diangana was putting on a show against Hull City and Chris Lepkowski was left purring as he watched on.
