Xu Ku joins Guochuan Lai’s son in West Brom directors’ box for 5-2 win v Hull City

Guochuan Lai’s son and director Xu Ke were both present at The Hawthorns on Saturday as West Brom won 5-2 v Hull City, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported on 20 August that Lai’s son “has no formal involvement with the running of the club” but he has attended a number of matches in recent years.

Xu, also known as Ken, was in the directors’ box too. Earlier this year, he was stripped of his CEO role at The Hawthorns, taking up a non-executive role on the board instead [Joseph Masi].

Show your face, Lai

He wouldn’t dare, would he?

The Chinese businessman owes West Brom around £10million in unpaid loans and it seems as though he’s scared to show his face around The Hawthorns so he sends his son to games instead.

While his son has no formal involvement at the Baggies, it wouldn’t shock us if he’s still reporting back to his father, presumably to tell him how great Okay Yokuslu’s playing and how he’s finally delighted to see Jake Livermore dropped from Steve Bruce’s starting line-up.

In all seriousness, there needs to be clarity over what’s happening at West Brom.

Fans have lost all trust in the board over these loans – and it’s not as though faith was high prior to the revelation earlier this summer that Lai took almost £5million out of the club to prop up one of his overseas ventures.

Bruce is currently haggling away in the transfer market to find a striker who’s available on loan or for next to nothing in order to cover for the injured Daryl Dike.

What a mess Lai has left this club in.
