Steve Bruce hails ‘future captain’ Dara O’Shea after heroics for West Brom v Hull City

Steve Bruce has labelled young defender Dara O’Shea as the “future captain” of West Brom.

The Baggies finally secured their first win against Hull City in the league campaign where the 23-year-old captained the side and scored a goal along with providing an assist.

Bruce was quoted in a report by Express & Star where he heaped praise on O’Shea and stated that the Dublin-born enforcer has “captain” all over written on him.

“Well, since I walked in the door I’ve said he’s the future captain,” he said. “The way he is, every day, the way he trains.

“He was recovering from a broken leg when I came in, he was absolutely unbelievable at his rehabilitation and he’s determined to play.

“He’s got captain written all over him, he’s a leader and it’s good to see him (as captain), he thoroughly deserved it.”

Leader

Every successful team have players who are leaders on and off the pitch and it is nothing short of a blessing to have young players who can stay at the club for years and are born leader.

O’Shea is one such player and having him at the club must’ve been great, not only for Bruce but also for the other players as they can look up to him when the chips are down.

West Brom

West Brom fans will be hoping that the top-tier management will do all they could to ensure that the 23-year-old will stay at the club beyond the summer of 2025 when his current contract is set to expire.

O’Shea is a West Brom academy product and was promoted to the club’s senior team in the summer of 2019.

Since then, he has played 72 matches for the Baggies’ senior team across all formats where he has managed to score six times and provided a couple of assists as well [Transfermarkt].

In other West Brom news, Bruce made a huge call to drop one of his senior players from the starting lineup against the Tigers but it seemed to work.
