West Brom want to sign Lewis Grabban, already rejected Championship rivals Rotherham
West Brom want to sign striker Lewis Grabban on a free transfer, after he turned down a switch to Championship rival Rotherham last week.
The Baggies have been in the market for a new striker all summer and their need was accelerated when Daryl Dike picked up a thigh injury that ruled him out of action for two months.
And after missing out on the signing of Man City starlet Liam Delap on loan to Stoke, Steve Bruce has now turned his attention to veteran striker Grabban on a free transfer after he was released by Nottingham Forest.
According to a report by journalist Darren Witcoop, Grabban turned down a move to Championship rivals Rotherham last week and is now in talks to sign for the Baggies.
The Athletic reported on August 16 that Grabban, who earned around £30k per-week at the City Ground, was added to the club’s striker shortlist and suggested that he would be one of the club’s highest earners if he signed.
Depth
Grabban proved last season that he is still more than reliable when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net in the Championship, despite being 34-years-old.
He previously worked under Bruce at Aston Villa and impressed with eight goals in 15 appearances, and while he’s not quite as sharp and mobile as he used to be he’s still a great addition.

He’d also be one to help younger players develop, but also add great competition and depth to the squad once Dike is eventually fit enough to return to contention.
His wages could potentially be an issue, and the fact he turned down a move to Rotherham suggests he’s in no rush to sign terms with a new club, but West Brom are in a relatively desperate situation right now.
Bringing in Grabban will show that they’re serious about their promotion push and with the need for a striker so publicly known, they may be forced to put their money where their mouth is to get this one over the line.
