West Brom rumours addressed by Ben Foster live on talkSPORT

Former England goalkeeper Ben Foster has addressed rumours linking him with a move back to West Brom for the 2022-23 season.

The 39-year-old was released by Watford as the Hornets were relegated last season but he is yet to find a new club having enjoyed a summer without pre-season in mind.

Live on talkSPORT, Foster was quizzed by a Baggies fan about whether he would return to the club he spent six seasons with from 2012 to 2018 having briefly trained with the youth team earlier this summer.

“Don’t believe a word you see on Twitter, Twitter is the worst,” Foster said. “People think I’ve been training with West Brom for the last however long but I only went in one day to train with the youth team goalkeepers because Boaz Myhill is the academy goalie coach.

“So I only trained for a day but it absolutely ruined my body. I woke up the next day in absolute agony but that night I did fall off my son’s scooter and bang my head so I was concussed for a few days and that was the end of my training with West Brom.

“There’s a possibility but there are two good goalkeepers there; I like David Button and I like Alex Palmer behind him but I’ll always be a West Brom fan.”

Make an effort

It sounds like Albion have not even tried to get a goalkeeper who was among Watford’s best performers last season despite their relegation from the Premier League.

West Brom

Given that Button was only the number one because Sam Johnstone left for Crystal Palace and Steve Bruce could not be bothered to search for another one, it seems baffling that the club haven’t made a formal approach.

They could have at least had him train for more than one day and try to twist his arm into a return even if it meant he was only going to play for one more year to help the side in their promotion push.

Even as he nears 40 years of age, Foster still would walk into the number one jersey at The Hawthorns and leave Button in his wake but it seems that the boss is satisfied with having average players in his team.

If West Brom don’t get promoted this season, the lack of a top goalkeeper can be pointed toward as a reason why they have failed to return to the top flight.

In other West Brom news, one of Foster’s former teammates is trying to hijack the Baggies’ move for this exciting teenager with a £21million bid.
