West Brom agree £500,000 fee to sign Salford City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante

West Brom have agreed to pay £500,000 for the signing of forward Brandon Thomas-Asante from Salford City, according to Lyall Thomas.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night (30 August), the Sky Sports journalist reported that Albion have beaten Birmingham and Barnsley to land the 23-year-old attacker.

Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre added at 09:13pm that Thomas-Asante is now set to sign “pending a medical”.

Not enough

This isn’t anything against Thomas-Asante.

If the Salford ace does join Albion before the 11pm deadline on Thursday (1 September) then we wish him all the best and we hope that he’s able to continue his form in the Black Country.

He’s started very well this season at Salford in League Two.

Thomas-Asante has scored five goals in seven matches this season while he’s also chipped in with two assists.

We have no issues with signing players from lower leagues if the club think they’re good enough to make the step up to the Championship.

However, Thomas-Asante feels like another Karlan Grant or another Callum Robinson due to the fact he’s usually a winger who likes to cut inside instead of being an out-and-out striker.

That’s what Albion need – someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net with a glut of chances being created and squandered in almost every match this season.
