West Brom agree £300,000 fee to sign Brandon Thomas-Asante from Salford

West Brom have agreed to pay the £300,000 release clause of Brandon Thomas-Asante to sign the striker from Salford, according to BBC Sport.

The Baggies have been hunting for a new striker all summer after allowing Andy Carroll to leave at the end of his contract and Daryl Dike suffering a thigh injury that ruled him out for two months.

But after missing out on strikers like Liam Delap, Dwight Gayle and Lewis Grabban, the club have now beaten rivals Birmingham City to the signing of the 23-year-old by paying his release clause and agreeing a sell-on percentage with the League Two side.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, BBC reporter Simon Stone said; “Brandon Thomas-Asante deal to [West Brom] agreed. Had 10 months left on Salford City contract. Baggies have met £300k buy-out clause and agreed a sell-on.

“Birmingham were also keen but striker has chosen West Brom, who are still looking to bring someone in before the window shuts.”

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook reported on Tuesday [30 August] that the striker was undergoing a medical already.

Finally

A striker, finally. It’s been a long old hog to try and bring someone in who knows where the back of the net is and it seems as though the club have finally found a bit of cash for Steve Bruce.

Up to now the Baggies have been restricted to free transfers and loan attempts with John Swift, Jed Wallace and Okay Yokuslu coming in and it has cost them with securing deals for much needed bolstering.

However with a £300k buy-out clause, the deal was far too easy to look past and with plenty of interest from elsewhere the club had to move quickly to get it done.

Thomas-Asante scored 13 goals for Salford last season but has started this campaign on fire with five goals in six appearances. The step up to the Champioship means he will need time to adapt, but it’s great just to have another body through the door at this point.

Once Dike is fit there will be more depth in the position with similar profiles able to play, and getting one over the Blues is always a positive too, so it’s a great ending to the window.
