West Brom attacker Callum Robinson in talks with Cardiff City

Cardiff City are in talks with West Brom attacker Callum Robinson over a potential last-minute deal for the 27-year-old, according to Sky Sports.

The Republic of Ireland international was not involved in the Baggies’ squad at all for the trip to Wigan Athletic where Steve Bruce’s side came away from the North West with a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal from Karlan Grant.

Robinson is yet to start a game for Albion this season (in the Championship) and he is therefore on the transfer list as the club looks to create funds for more new incomings.

The 27-year-old’s most likely destination is now the Welsh capital as Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre reported on 31 August [09:14am] that he was in talks with the Bluebirds which is further than any other move has been.

Darren Witcoop reported on 6 July that West Brom were happy to let him leave on loan and that Preston were the leaders of the race at that time but Ryan Lowe’s side have cooled their interest since.

Get rid

It is about time that Robinson is sold despite registering 17 goals and assists last season because he has proven that he is not good enough to be a regular player in the Premier League.

While Albion are not there yet, that is the ultimate aim and Bruce can’t have players around that are incapable of the step up whenever it may come.

Karlan Grant’s form in front of goal has kept the Irishman comfortably out of the boss’ plans for some time and even the wings are now sorted with Grady Diangana back in form and Jed Wallace the creator in chief.

There is just no room at the inn for Robinson anymore and with so little time before the transfer window closes on 1 September, a move has to be manufactured rapidly.

Bruce still wants more new additions and Brandon Thomas-Asante’s imminent arrival will give the green light for Robinson’s exit.

In other West Brom news, Nigel Quashie was disgusted at the Baggies’ away draw against the Latics as he vented his frustration on Twitter.
