West Brom disgust Nigel Quashie after ‘shocking’ 1-1 draw v Wigan

West Brom endured their fifth draw of the Championship season on Tuesday evening (30 August) with a 1-1 draw away at Wigan Athletic.

Josh Magennis put the Latics in front after just six minutes as the Baggies started slow again but Karlan Grant soon equalised with both goals coming within the first half an hour.

It was the fifth time in seven league matches that Albion have gone behind first with only the 5-2 win against Hull and the 0-0 draw against Cardiff the anomalies.

The lacklustre performance at the DW Stadium saw Nigel Quashie take to Twitter to vent his frustration at West Brom who he thinks should be getting better results.

That was horrible to watch, It’s a long night when the opposition is launching it up the pitch and the ball goes out of your tv screen,” he said.

“To see players just kick it into space without looking is shocking! Get out of there because draws need to turn into wins quickly!”

Mediocre

Unfortunately, while West Brom as a club are generally bigger than most in the Championship, the squad Steve Bruce has inherited and, to an extent, built is not one that can win promotion.

He is hoping to make new signings before the transfer deadline on 1 September with Salford City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante set to undergo a medical at The Hawthorns [Alex Crook] but that is just fixing the same problem that occurred last January.

There are many more issues that need to be resolved within the Albion squad with the hours ticking down faster and faster and Bruce will not be pleased if only the Ammies forward is brought in.

The Wigan draw should be the catalyst for increased action on the transfer front but it seems like the finances just aren’t there for the club to go big and make a statement signing.

Fans may have to admit that the aim of returning to the Premier League is a long-term one that could require a few years of rebuilding in the second tier.

In other West Brom news, Ben Foster has addressed rumours that have linked him with a move back to The Hawthorns after training with the youth team earlier this summer.
