Wigan Athletic join the race for West Brom forward Callum Robinson
Wigan Athletic have joined the race for West Brom forward Callum Robinson as the 27-year-old looks to seal his Hawthorns exit according to the Irish Independent.
It’s understood that the Latics have joined Cardiff and Preston in a move for the Republic of Ireland striker who has been deemed surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns.
The Irish Independent also revealed (Wednesday 31 August) that Robinson is set to leave the club before the window slams shut on Thursday evening (1 September).

Risky
This is very bold by the Baggies, with Robinson a proven Championship goalscorer who still has a number of years in the tank.
Daryl Dike’s injury means that new signing Brandon Thomas-Asante and Karlan Grant are Steve Bruce’s main forward options at the moment.
Robinson does operate in a slightly wider area, but his goalscoring record in the second-tier is good and will need to be replaced by Thomas-Asante or a new arrival over the next day.
With three years left on his current deal, the Baggies will be looking to generate a decent fee for Robinson and that could well be used to add another player to Bruce’s squad.

It’s a gamble for the club to place a lot of trust in their new arrival by allowing Robinson to leave.
The Hawthorns faithful would surely be happier if the Baggies managed to add another attack-minded player to their ranks if and when Robinson does depart the club.
On a positive note, the amount of interest in Robinson could see the Baggies generate a decent fee for the 27-year-old with at least three Championship clubs vying for his services.
In other West Brom news, Albion could have been welcoming a new loan signing but they have messed up as he heads towards Birmingham instead.
