Callum Robinson medical scheduled at Cardiff City as West Brom exit nears

West Brom forward Callum Robinson is scheduled to undergo a deadline-day medical with Cardiff City ahead of a permanent move to Wales, according to The Athletic journalist Elias Burke.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning (1 September), Burke claimed that Robinson, 27, “is on his way” to the Welsh capital on a permanent basis to free up funds for last-gasp signings at The Hawthorns.

It is understood that Steve Bruce wants multiple additions to be made on deadline day with the transfer window closing at 11pm on Thursday night.

Extra funds

Robinson isn’t a player who divides opinion that much among West Brom fans and we assume that the majority are happy to see the back of the former Aston Villa attacker.

Although he was directly involved in 16 goals in the Championship, the Ireland international hasn’t impressed due to a lack of work-ethic and numerous gutless displays in blue and white stripes.

It’s best for everyone that he moves on.

However, one issue that we’ll pick in all of this is that Steve Bruce is having to offload a player like Robinson, who has been a key player for most of his time at The Hawthorns, in order to raise funds.

West Brom

Bruce is selling to Championship rivals so he can sign players he wants when Chinese chairman Guochuan Lai owes the club around £10million in unpaid loans.

If Bruce had that extra £10million to spend, there’s no doubt that this transfer window would have gone differently and Robinson would be getting sold because he’s surplus to requirements and not because we need the money.

It’s a sad time being a West Brom supporter right now but we can expect many transfer windows like this until there’s a change at the very top.
