Josh Onomah at West Brom for medical ahead of loan move from Fulham

Fulham midfielder is at West Brom to have a medical after a deal was secured with Fulham to sign him on loan, according to Lewis Cox.

Steve Bruce is looking for last-gasp options to boost his squad on deadline day and the 25-year-old former England under-21 international appears to be well on the way to doing that.

After effectively swapping out Callum Robinson for Brandon Thomas-Asante and having the finances boosted by around £1million in the process the Baggies are also trying to work the market on temporary moves elsewhere in the squad.

BBC Sport commentator Ian Dennis had written on his Twitter account on Thursday afternoon (1 September): “West Brom have agreed a loan deal with Fulham for Josh Onomah, subject to a medical”.

Then Express & Star journalist Cox quickly followed up on his own Twitter page with: “Update. Told Onomah is in for wba medical.”

Victorious?

Albion have shown a knack for beating the competition to in-demand players this summer with a willingness to pay decent wages for free agents now doubt helpful in that cause, but loanees are sure to be the order of the day.

The additions of John Swift, and particularly Jed Wallace, have been key to the stronger elements of the start to the new campaign.

But performances are anything but consistent so far and results are only consistent in that they so often end in draws, leaving Bruce and his side squarely in mid-table where they finished last season so far.

West Brom

Onomah has Premier League experience from his time at both Tottenham and Fulham, and has had two campaigns as a central figure in Championship sides, on loan at Aston Villa and again with the Cottagers.

He has fallen down the pecking order of late and has yet to feature for the club this season, but has decent versatility which Bruce will value if he needs to switch formations.

If the medical goes through with no hitches the Baggies boss will be pleased to get his one over the line in the final hours.

In other West Brom news, the club have already been dealt a “massive kick in the head” in this transfer window.
