West Brom agree permanent deal with Cardiff City for Callum Robinson
Steve Bruce has confirmed that West Brom forward Callum Robinson is set to join Cardiff City on a permanent deal, as relayed by The Express and Star’s Lewis Cox.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday 31 August that the Bluebirds were leading the race for the Republic of Ireland attacker.
It’s understood a host of Championship clubs were chasing Robinson but it has since been confirmed by the Baggies boss on Thursday 1 September that South Wales is his destination.
Bruce said [as quoted by Glenn Williams from Wales online, 1 September]: “It looks as if he’s on his way, Cardiff I think is the one that’s agreed the fee.
“We always knew we had to balance the books, I wish him the best of luck if that happens.”
Good move
This is a good move for all involved, especially with Cardiff paying a fee for Robinson.
He still has three years left on his current deal at The Hawthorns which means the club could secure a decent transfer fee for the 27-year-old.
When Robinson does finally secure his West Brom exit, it will be interesting to see if the Baggies make any last-minute dives into the transfer market with the incoming money.
Brandon Thomas-Asante has joined the club but is unproven at Championship level so Steve Bruce may be inclined to add a more experienced head to his forward line

A midfielder could also be a possibility for the Baggies, with options slightly thin in the middle of the park at present.
Robinson’s exit has been long overdue and the Baggies really should have looked to get his exit completed earlier in the transfer window to enable them more time to find a replacement.
It’s clear that the deadline day madness has seen a deal for Robinson escalate quickly and now the Baggies need to show some intent in the remaining hours of the window.
