West Brom move to hijack Birmingham deal for Tahith Chong on loan
West Brom are attempting to hijack Birmingham’s move for Manchester United winger Tahith Chong with a loan move, according to Darren Witcoop.
The Baggies completed the signing of striker Brandon Thomas-Asante from Salford City on Wednesday but have continued to scout the market for potential additions.
They have now settled on Dutch winger Chong and are looking to seal a loan deal ahead of Birmingham, who were set to seal a permanent deal after the player’s successful loan spell at St Andrew’s last season.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Witcoop said;
“Birmingham have seen a move for striker Josh Maja collapse overnight while Manchester United target Tahith Chong could now be heading to West Brom on loan rather than returning to St Andrew’s.
“WBA to sanction Callum Robinson’s exit if get the Chong deal over the line.”
Brilliant
Callum Robinson’s impending exit was a bit of a weird one for fans because the squad is already quite light on options in attack, but Chong coming in would certainly make up for it.
A left-footed right winger is exactly what is needed and with Jed Wallace’s arrival too it would be the perfect signing to provide depth and competition.
Chong also played as a central midfielder on occasion for Birmingham last season and impressed, so his versatility will be great for the squad but most importantly it replaces an outgoing player and means we aren’t weaker.
Getting one over on our rivals is always fun too, and Chong would mean that we have another direct and pacy wide man who can beat players and has a decent end product too.
It would be a terrific statement signing and another great use of the loan market considering our funding issues this summer, and a deal that all fans should be excited about.
