West Brom want to sign Josh Onomah before deadline strikes

West Brom are pushing to try and sign Fulham midfielder Josh Onomah before the transfer deadline, according to journalist Lewis Cox.

The Cottagers have not used Onomah in any Premier League game yet this season but the 25-year-old could now leave Craven Cottage on loan with many Championship clubs also in the hunt.

He only made 15 appearances last season as Marco Silva’s side stormed the second tier to return to the top flight and Steve Bruce wants that promotion-winning knowledge in his playing staff too.

He has already managed Onomah twice, in fact, during his career both at Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday while he was still a contracted Tottenham Hotspur player.

Queens Park Rangers are the other Championship side currently leading the race to sign Onomah but Michael Beale’s side are close rivals to Fulham which could sway the tide.

Swift backup

Onomah’s tendency to be an attacking midfielder is tremendous news for Bruce who can now expect John Swift to keep his incredibly high-performance levels up to ensure he is not dropped for the new recruit.

West Brom

The former Reading man has been the beating heart of the West Brom side this season and his numbers in front of goal for the Royals were outstanding even if he is yet to really find his feet at The Hawthorns.

Having another high-quality attacking midfielder to call upon should be enough to keep Swift on his toes and also provide Bruce with the relaxing knowledge that there is a backup should anything happen to him.

Onomah could be the final signing of the summer for Albion, if he agrees to join in what has been a largely quiet one for big-money signings but the overall side has improved which is all you can really ask for from a transfer window.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are no longer leading the race for this Manchester United player as he looks set for a move to a rival team.
