Wigan make late move to sign West Brom midfielder Adam Reach
West Brom wide midfielder Adam Reach is the subject of a late move from Championship rivals Wigan, according to Alan Nixon on Patreon.
The versatile 29-year-old was attracting attention heading into the close the transfer window and it is The Latics who are making a play to sign him.
Reach featured 36 times last season after signing as a free agent following the expiry of his Sheffield Wednesday contract, and has made six appearances so far this season.
However it is clear that has fallen down the pecking order as the four league games he has seen action in have totalled less than a quarter of an hour on the pitch.
As such Nixon reports on Patreon that he is available to leave if the two clubs can agree a deal, and may be keen on a move to secure more game time.
Trimming
With Wigan a point behind the Baggies having played and drawn one fewer games so far this season this would be the definition of a sideways move for Reach.
But with it looking pretty clear that he is not set to be a key performer under Bruce the chance to start or at least feature regularly may be attractive.
It would take away an option for the Albion manager, and one that could be used as cover at numerous different positions, but if it means there is space on the wage bill for a late deal it makes sense.
The squad could benefit from a lift from whatever can be gleaned from the final hours of the window since the form in the Championship so far is hit and miss.
Periods of games can suggest there are plenty of ingredients to do something impressive this season, while others conjure bleak memories of the flattest elements of last season.
The striker conundrum seems to sit at the crux of a lot of things, and if Daryl Dike were fit, or indeed anyone else was to fill the true number nine role, then some of the draws might become wins.
