FA reject West Brom attempts to sign Steven Alzate on loan after deadline passes

The FA have rejected an attempt from West Brom to register Steven Alzate’s loan transfer after the deadline passed, according to reliable journalist Pipe Sierra.

The Baggies were keen to seal a late loan deal for the Brighton midfielder on deadline day, but saw the deal collapse when the paperwork wasn’t sent through to the FA on time.

The club were hopeful of getting special dispensation from the FA to do the deal anyway, however that request has been rejected according to the player’s entourage as reported by Sierra.

“The circle of Steven Alzate (23) confirms that the FA refused the possibility of extending the deadline for the Colombian National Team midfielder to be registered today in West Brom,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“For the time being, the one born in London remains in the Brighton.”

Annoying

It’s annoying to hear that we’re going to miss out on a signing that would improve us, but ultimately we only really have ourselves to blame at this point.

The club got a lot of their business done early and while additions were needed, the club should not have been in a position where they needed to sign three players on deadline day.

Ultimately they secured one, with Martin Kelly joining on a two-year deal, but with Josh Onomah and Alzate’s moves collapsing it’s clear the club is short in midfield as well as in attack until January at least.

Had the club made their moves earlier in the window to secure the players needed this situation would never have occurred, and they can’t blame the FA for not giving them special dispensation.

Now we have to get on with it and hope our injury problems don’t worsen too much, but it’s shocking that the club allowed it to get to such a late stage before acting.
