West Brom decision to sell Callum Robinson baffles BBC pundit
West Brom made the bold call on transfer deadline day to sell Republic of Ireland international Callum Robinson to Cardiff City.
The 27-year-old was the last player out of The Hawthorns’ door over the summer and could afford to be let go after Brandon Thomas-Asante joined from Salford City 24 hours earlier.
BBC pundit Carlton Palmer is still baffled, however, as to why the Baggies would let go of a player who had contributed plenty in attack last season.

“I didn’t think West Brom and Steve Bruce would let Callum go,” he said to Football League World. “Last term, 43 games, seven goals. You know, he’s scored goals in the Premier League. He’s a versatile forward.
“But, I’ve been listening to Steve Bruce, they had to balance the books.
“So, that was one that was always going to happen from what Steve was saying. I think they were hoping to get Callum out and bring Theo Walcott in on loan for the rest of the season but that didn’t materialise.
“So, they’ve got a decent fee for him and they’ve got his salary off the books.”
Evolution
When a club buys in new talent, naturally some have to then depart and that is just the evolution of a squad over time and Robinson’s is up with West Brom.

Thomas-Asante has already proven his ability in front of goal with his last-gasp equaliser against Burnley on Friday evening and with Karlan Grant leading the way, Robinson’s path was very blocked at The Hawthorns.
Steve Bruce needed to get some money in to ensure they could go and spend in January if required and when the player in question gets an offer worth seven figures, it would be barmy not to accept.
A streamlined but quality squad now resides at The Hawthorns and Bruce has the promotion knowledge to take them all the way even if the start of the season has been less than enthralling.
Robinson won’t be contributing any more to the Baggies’ promotion chase though and it will be proven as the right result as time goes on.
In other West Brom news, the Republic of Ireland international has already bid farewell to Albion on Twitter.
