West Brom-linked Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate now in talks to join Standard Liege
Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate is reportedly moving on from his failed move to West Brom on transfer deadline day.
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, due to the paperwork not being lodged in time, his move to the Hawthorns did not materialise.
He is now in talks with Standard Liege as he is looking at the possibility of moving to the Belgian club on loan.
Via Twitter, McGrath wrote, “Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate in talks with Belgian club Standard Liege over loan until the end of the season. Colombia international had agreed #WBA move before UK deadline but paperwork not lodged on time.”
Shameful
The Baggies had their targets in mind for a long time and if they didn’t, then that’s no way to run a football club.
However, we’re baffled as to why they waited until the final few minutes of the transfer window to agree on terms and submit paperwork.
The moment Brighton signed Billy Gilmour it was clear that they were willing to allow Alzate to leave on loan and that should’ve run the alarm bells at the Hawthorns.
But it did not and they delayed before finally deciding to sign Alzate but it proved to be too late and now they have to regret it.
Hopefully, they can sign a competent free agent, but this is not what Steve Bruce would’ve wanted and he will be fuming at the lack of efficiency shown by the club hierarchy.
