West Brom scour free agents market as remaining wage budget sits still

West Brom have space in their wage budget ready to go as they look to still strengthen their squad in the coming weeks, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper has reported on its website that Steve Bruce is scouring the free agents market still as he looks to right the wrongs of deadline day.

Midfielders and attackers are on the agenda, despite the only free agent having trained with the club being left-back Erik Pieters since his release from Burnley.

Ron Gourlay alongside Bruce will be looking to add to the options at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies aren’t far away from putting it all together with a successful squad, and despite dominating games, they keep ending up leaving with only one or even worst, no points.

Adding a couple of news faces could make all the difference, with Martin Kelly brought in on deadline day to resolve the issues in the defence for Bruce.

But, missing out on Steven Alzate and Josh Onomah shows the clear want and need for new midfielders, and adding another number nine could make this squad complete.

Business.

The free agent market can be great, as much as it can be dreadful.

Of course, the best deals are snapped up at the beginning of the summer as players turn down extensions to force another move elsewhere and we pulled off two of the best with Jed Wallace and John Swift arriving.

Both have been revelations so far at The Hawthorns, but it is clear that they need more help around them to continue pushing in the right direction.

Another midfield option on top of another striker and maybe even a left-back could complete this squad and really start pushing towards promotion.

One-year deals will be on the cards with the remaining wage budget as they are relatively low-risk signings, although there will still be real disappointment it wasn’t used on those two loans.

Alzate and Onomah would have been perfect additions for this side, but now we have to look elsewhere, hoping it doesn’t come back to haunt us in May.

In other West Brom news, Ron Gourlay has now pivoted to a new market as he looks for multiple new out of window transfers for the Baggies
