West Brom to open investigation after Deadline Day failures in transfer market

West Brom are set to open up an investigation into what went wrong on transfer deadline day last week, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper has reported on its website that Steve Bruce has confirmed that two deals will be looked into specifically as he also plots to use the free agent market.

Josh Onomah and Steven Alzate were both on track to join the Baggies on loan from Fulham and Brighton respectively, but both deals collapsed before completion.

Medicals and even media obligations were completed in the case of Onomah, yet paperwork issues meant that the deadline passed with no joy.

Unlike Premier League clubs, EFL sides cannot submit deal sheets to go past the deadline to complete deals that were in the works and have to stick to the strict deadline.

Poor.

One deal now going through can be expected and there isn’t much you can do about that usually.

But, to see two potential big loan moves fall through before the deadline means that something went badly wrong on both sides for that to happen.

Brighton and Fulham both completed transfers past the deadline in the shape of Billy Gilmour and Dan James, something that likely took their focus away from outgoings, even just on loan.

There were issues with the paperwork too, something you simply cannot afford to do on the biggest level, and it is simply schoolboy from all involved.

Bruce will no doubt be joined by Ron Gourlay in trying to find answers and make sure that it never happens again as it can be the difference between promotion and staying in the Championship.

Let’s hope it doesn’t harm us too much as the free agent market can do the same job, if not better at brining in some new faces to strengthen this squad.
