Steve Bruce left exasperated by West Brom chaos on Deadline Day

Steve Bruce was left exasperated by the Deadline Day failures of West Brom as the transfer window slammed shut, according to The Athletic.

The reliable outlet has reported that setbacks were not on the cards with the additional need for new players said to be crucial if promotion is to happen this season.

Loan moves for Josh Onomah and Steven Alzate were advanced, to say the least, but both collapsed at the last moment due to issues with the paperwork on both sides.

Writing in their latest piece, The Athletic shared the feeling coming out of the managers’ office as the window officially slammed shut with nothing to show for it.

“Over at The Hawthorns, despite landing Thomas-Asante, deadline day was even more chaotic and concerning,” they wrote.

“Proposed season-long loan deals for Josh Onomah and Steven Alzate fell through in the final minutes due to paperwork complications.

“Manager Steve Bruce is said to have been exasperated at the setbacks, knowing the need for additional bodies is crucial if his side are going to push up the table.”

West Brom

Shocker.

Bruce has every right to be left angered by what has happened.

Alzate and Onomah appeared to be in the bag and ready to go, with those two instantly improving our options in midfield as we look to push forward.

Brighton and Fulham were both busy trying to bring players in of their own in the shape of Billy Gilmour and Dan James, and that appears to have worked against the Baggies.

The fact that there are no deal sheets in the Championship to extend ongoing deals beyond the deadline is a joke and something that needs to be looked at immediately.

Premier League clubs can do that and numerous deals were completed because of it, but yet West Brom simply had to watch two players crumble in front of them because of paperwork issues.

Something needs to be done about this so it never happens again, let’s hope the free agent market is kind to us.
