Simon Jordan suggests West Brom will sack Steve Bruce as he predicts behind-the-scenes talks

Simon Jordan doesn’t see Steve Bruce lasting long at West Brom if he fails to transform the club’s current form in the Championship.

Albion lost at home against Birmingham for the first time in 17 years on Wednesday night (14 September) as Bruce’s men were beaten 3-2 at The Hawthorns.

With one win in nine games, the Baggies are 20th in the Championship standings and their promotion hopes look to be fading already despite it being mid-September.

West Brom

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has told Bruce to buck his ideas up and predicts that talks will have already been held behind the scenes where the West Brom manager will have been told he’s not doing well enough.

“This isn’t good enough,” said Jordan, as shown in a clip on the talkSPORT Twitter account on Thursday (15 September).

“You don’t get beat by Birmingham, he knows that, because Birmingham is the game you don’t get beaten in and obviously he has.

“I do think they’ve played some of the better sides in the division but that’s notwithstanding.

“If you’ve got a win record of 33 per cent or thereabouts, this is not why West Bromwich Albion are employing him.

“They employed Steve Bruce to get them out of the division – not to keep them in the division.

“He’s got to do better and if he doesn’t do better, then he’s going to get what he deserves because this isn’t good enough.

“Now, like a lot of the clubs that go down, we’re not going to be privy to a lot of the stuff he has to deal with behind the scenes. When Villa went down, there were a lot of players in that dressing room who were past their sell-by date and there were also situations at West Bromwich Albion where he needed to probably clear the decks a little bit.

“But that’s why you get top managers to do that and do that quick.

“I can’t make excuses for Steve and I don’t feel the necessity to do so because I like him.

“This isn’t good enough.

“He’ll be being told that by the people he works for and the people, like him and like me, don’t shriek away from the fact that West Bromwich Albion should be doing a damn-sight better.”

Spot on

There’s not a word of Jordan’s verdict that isn’t true.

Bruce cannot hide behind the failed ownership of Guochuan Lai anymore because even with the Chinese business taking funds out of the club, West Brom’s squad is one that should be way higher up the league right now.

Albion are struggling to score and conceding ridiculously bad goals in almost every single game.

Bruce has to own up to the fact that while he’s not the root cause of West Brom’s woes so far this season, he’s playing a massive role in them.

Should Albion sack him?

Many fans could argue that constantly sacking and replacing managers does more harm than good and that sticking with a manager and showing some faith in them might be the best option.

But that didn’t happen with Slaven Bilic or Valerien Ismael so why would it happen with a manager who’s had absolute shockers at multiple clubs in recent years?

Bruce is done for. We fail to see how he can turn this around now.

West Brom need to get rid and start again.

Hire a good manager for once.

If you do that, you won’t have to keep sacking them.

In other West Brom news, Tony Brown says Bruce made a decision on this Albion player in the defeat to Blues because of the angry home fans at The Hawthorns.
